MINT Tips - Excel Printing

Making a printout from excel can be challenging, especially if your weren’t the original author of the Spreadsheet.

Heres a few tips on how to get most of your printed worksheets…

  1. Select your print area
    1. Highlight the group of cells you want to print
    2. In Office 2003, click File, Print Area, Set Print Area
    3. In Office 2007, click Page Layout, Print Area, Set Print Area
    4. Now when you print the sheet, only the data in the print area will be printed
    5. Use print preview
      1. If you click “show margins” in print preview, you can adjust column sizes to fit the page from within the print preview page (click and drag the black dots at the top of the page)
      2. Widen the margins of the page to their maximum (about 5mm in from the edges will suit most printers)
      3. If the bottom of the page isn’t printing, then shorten the bottom margin, this will shift data on the next page
      4. Click the page setup button, and select “Fit to”, 1 pages wide by 1 pages tall to get the whole sheet onto one page, if you don’t know how many pages the rows will fit onto while still being able to read the data, then enter 100 pages tall, excel will only print rows with data in them
